DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Votran will operate on a limited service schedule on Christmas and New Year's in Volusia County for those who rely on the public buses to get to and from work, for shopping or other essential needs.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A recount washas been ordered in the South Daytona Mayor’s race, beginning at 9 am on Friday.

The recount will take place at the Department of Elections, Historic Courthouse, 125 W. New York Avenue in Deland.

The preliminary results indicate that of the 2,599 total votes cast; William "Bill" Hall received 1,302 votes or 50.10 percent and George F. Locke III received 1,297 votes or 49.90 percent.

SOUTH DAYTONA -- John Hinton, the face behind the zany John's Appliance and Bedding TV ads is excited about his latest appliance and blowout sale that starts the day after Christmas, now that the Mayan scare has passed.

Hinton cracked, "The world was supposed to end today, but I guess the Mayans got their dates wrong.

And with the Mayan calendar scare as a backdrop, Hinton is offering what he calls "end of the world bargains."

Normally open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Hinton and his sales staff will have on-site bedding and cabinet professionals to meet the needs of the customers looking for that specific fit.
