LAKE MARY, Fla. -- The Seminole County School district has seen a dramatic spike in student enrollment in the past couple of weeks.

Dramatic enough to fill the equivalent of three classrooms, district officials say. The sudden influx comes from families leaving Puerto Rico, many of them to Central Florida since the massive devastation from Hurricane Maria.

OVIEDO -- How cool would it be to have your music student desire to practice an instrument during the week between lessons? About as awesome as it is for him or her to perform rock songs on stage.

The School of Rock in Oviedo has inspired young people, ages 8 to 18, for the past two years at the same location, 5420 Deep Lake Road, just off 426, Aloma Road, in Seminole County. If you live in Edgewater like we do, it's not that far away.

OVIEDO -- Mayor Dominic Persampiere and Council member Steve Henken have been returned to their respective seats in this Seminole County city because they had no opponents when qualifying ended.

Though he had no opposition, Persampiere told reporters after Friday's qualifying ended, he's "humbled" nonetheless to be allowed to continue serving Oviedo.
