NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey announced in a Jacksonville press conference that her office is charging George Zimmerman with second-degree murder, which could land the 28-year-year-old Sanford man in prison for the rest of his life if convicted in the Feb. 26 gunshot slaying death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Corey made it clear this was not a case that would be tried in the media, but by application of the law, describing her mission as a "never ending search for the truth."
She confirmed that Zimmerman had voluntarily surrendered and is in the custody of Florida corrections. She would not disclose the location for hid safety and that of others.
