DEBARY -- The public is invited to enjoy an old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration at DeBary Hall Historic Site from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, July 4.
Activities at this free outdoor party are geared toward all ages. A disc jockey will play patriotic music, and attendees can compete in a number of events, including pie-eating contests. Participants may bring a picnic lunch or purchase refreshments on site.
Actor and writer Frank Attwood will portray Thomas Alva Edison in two 40-minute shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Audiences will learn the connection between Edison and the DeBary area and have an opportunity to interact with the historical character, said Pat Kuehn, a Volusia County spokeswoman. In his Edison persona, Attwood will share stories about how the St. Johns River led to one of Edison’s most revolutionary inventions and why Independence Day was his favorite holiday.
Tours of the mansion are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for children ages 3 - 12, and free for children 2 and under.
