Saturday's rain real yawner compared to recent drenching

Can you believe it? We got more rain, thanks to a line of thunderstorms that passed through Volusia County on an otherwise sticky-hot Saturday afternoon

The National Weather Service issued a series of thunderstorm warnings throughout the region, including one for East Central Volusia that read kind of scary, though when all was said and done by the warning's expiring time of 5:45 p.m. was plain old rain -- and not more than an inch. After last month's week-long drenching that gave us nearly 20 inches of rainfall and lots of flooding, a day like today was no big deal. A real yawner.

Here was the bulletin:

* AT 503 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING NICKEL SIZE HAIL...AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR
WILBUR BY THE SEA...OR NEAR SOUTH DAYTONA...AND MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 20 MPH.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE...BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO...PONCE INLET...NEW SMYRNA BEACH...OAK HILL...

It's nice to know we here in Southeast Volusia are on the weather service's radar.

The weather is expected to be much nicer for Sunday with a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The highs will be in the low 90s with light winds of 5 to 10 mph.
