NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A Celebration of Life and visitation for 60-year-old Daniel N. Raimondo, who died tragically Tuesday when he was hit by a motorist on his bicycle, will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Baldwin Brothers Heritage Chapel, 1 North Causeway.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Joanne Butler of New Smyrna Beach; son, Lee of California; grandson, Chad; brother, Scott; and sisters, Rita Grant, Debbie Innamorato, Valerie Boecher, Chrissy Nattelie, Pamela Johnson and Lynda Olsen.
Raimondo, of 2105 S. Atlantic Ave., was born April 12, 1949, in Fort Lauderdale and lived in New Smyrna Beach for the past 16 years. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football, being an avid Miami Dolphins fan. He also especially enjoyed gardening.
According to a police report, Raimando was eastbound on Flagler Avenue at 2:08 p.m. when he failed to stop for the steady red signal at the intersection of Flagler Avenue and North Peninsula, colliding with a Chevrolet driven by Robert E. Hall, 24, of Edgewater, who was southbound on North Peninsula through a green light.
The victim was treated on scene by New Smyrna Beach Fire/Rescue and succumbed to his injuries while being flown by the Sheriff's Air One helicopter to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. The helicopter had landed on the nearby North Causeway drawbridge for the transport.
"(A) preliminary crash investigation did not indicate any wrongdoing by Mr. Hall," police Sgt. Michael Brouilette wrote in a police media report, adding, "The final investigative report is pending scene evaluation and laboratory analysis."
