NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Under bright sunny skies Saturday, people craned their heads upwards for a once-in-a-lifetime view of an elite group of parachuters with their precision landings at the fourth annual New Smyrna Beach Balloon and SkyFest.
The highlight of the first day, no doubt was the death-defying aerial maneuvers of the U.S. Army's Golden Knights.
"This is all so unbelievable," said Sally Mackay, a founder of the event and former New Smyrna Beach mayor at the March event. "This is great entertainment for the entire family -- people of all ages."
Henry Frederick is in the nearer plane with wife Sera Frederick in the farther out plane over New Smyrna Beach.
The aerial adventure comes in at No. 46 in Headline Surfer's countdown of the top 100 stories of 2012.
The crowds have been tremendous since Friday's start of the three-day event at the New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport on U.S. 1.
