The wildfire danger is extremely high right now and the level of our underground water supply is low. NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The trooper from New Smyrna Beach who was struck by a passing motorist while dealing with a stopped vehicle on I-4 in DeBary on Thursday, is expected to be confined to a wheelchair for at least three months, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

OAK HILL -- The Oak Hill Public Library will celebrate its 15th anniversary in its current location Saturday, April 18.
The public is invited to join local dignitaries, library staff and volunteers for an open house from 10 a.m. to noon. Volusia County Council District 3 Rep. Jack Hayman and Oak Hill Mayor Darla Lauer will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
Refreshments will be served. The event is free and sponsored in part by the Friends of the Library.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Today's gusting winds were blamed for a downed tree that damaged a power line and left the NSB Regional Shopping Center in the dark for about an hour, retailers and the Utilities Commission said.
"The wind took down a tree behind Publix and that damaged two of the three phases of a three-phase line," said Ellen Fisher, public information manager for the utility company.
Power went off at 12:30 p.m. affecting all of the stores in the city's largest plaza, including WalMart, where employees stood in front of doors, politely directing people away.
