58. Cops: Robber foiled in prescription pill heists in NSB and Edgewater

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 27-year-old Rockledge man was unlucky in two pharmacy robbery attempts of prescription pills earlier today, first in Edgewater, then in New Smyrna Beach, police said.

Lawrence Reome, 81, of Oak Hill, a native of Malone, N.Y., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.

Sheri Lynn Howell, 34, of Edgewater, a day auditor, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009.

James Wilson, 84, of New Smyrna Beach, a former engineer, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009.

Rose A. Lancaster, 64, of New Smyrna Beach, a travel/tour agent for Rose's Tours, Edgewater, died Friday, Dec, 25, 2009.

57. Felony drug charges forwarded to State Attorney by Sheriff's investigators against four NSB Middle School girls

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Felony charges were forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for possible prosecution against four eighth-grade girls at New Smyrna Beach Middle School for ingesting prescription pills that resulted in all four being briefly hospitalized Monday morning after their teacher reported them to the principal for acting strangely in class.

Young, 31, of Edgewater, a convicted felon recently released from prison, was arrested in July on a warrant charging him with having unlawful sex with a child. The victim, bore his child at the age of 16, two years after Young allegedly began having sex with her.

EDGEWATER -- Robert C. Young went to prison two years ago with a secret few others knew at the time.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An 84-year-old Edgewater woman refused to give up her money to a hooded teenager who approached her in her car at the K-Mart plaza on State Road 44, earlier today, even though he told her he had a weapon under his sweatshirt, after which he ran off, New Smyrna Beach police said.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A 67-year-old woman was walking through the parking lot at the Publix in the New Smyrna Beach Regional Shopping Center just before 2 p.m. Saturday when a woman jumped out of a sport utility vehicle, snatched her purse, jumped back in and drove off, New Smyrna Beach police said.
