It's certainly true that guns kill, but they also save lives
The second amendment to the Constitution states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Saturday's Arizona mass murder that claimed at least six lives and the near-fatal shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is yet another stark reminder of how violent a society we Americans live in.
It's easy, isn't it: Just repeal the right to bear arms and the deadly violence will dissipate. Right? Wrong.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An off-duty k-9 officer walking his dog shot and killed an aggressive pit bull that was initially aggressive with his dog and then lunged at him, New Smyrna Beach police said.

ORMOND BEACH -- Shannon Pursley may very well have told the police she was divorcing her husband leading up to the fateful early morning hours of New Year's when he allegedly opened fire outside the Rockin' Ranch, killing her friend and almost her, court records show she has not petitioned for a "disolution of marriage."

The tragic shooting involving Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and several others has once again touched off the argument over the right to own guns.
The founding fathers gave us the right to own firearms for a number of good reasons. Foremost among them is to protect ourselves from bodily harm from our fellow citizens -- the criminals.
The police cannot legally do much to protect you from bodily threats. What they can do is investigate the crime and draw a yellow line around your corpse.

ORMOND BEACH -- Shannon Pursley has to walk an even finer line shielding her children as she deals with the horror of having seen her boyfriend gunned down by her estranged husband during the early morning hours of New Year's outside the Rockin' Ranch bar.
"Im not only dealing with the mourning of Keith, but also dealing with the repercussions that the father of my child is in jail," she said Monday night in an exclusive interview with VolusiaNews.net.
