Keeping our eyes on the prize

With tremendous growth in our Google Analytics and social media contacts on Facebook, we are expanding our coverage of NSBNews.net to eventually include seven Central Florida Counties: Besides Volusia, we'll have Brevard, Seminole, Orange, Putnam, Flagler and St. Johns.

We can't be everywhere, but we can certainly provide news and notes and give a snapshot of events that are breaking, relevant and important to us as a region. Brevard County will be first with emphasis on Mims, Titusville and Merritt Island.

We're also adding the unincorporated Volusia County communities of DeLeon Springs and Osteen. Among the other areas to follow are Seminole County with Sanford, Lake Mary, Oviedo, Altamonte Springs, Casselberry and Longwood; Orange County with Orlando, Winter Park, Windemere and Maitland; Putnam County with Crescent City and Palatka; Flagler County with Bunnell, Flagler Beach and Palm Coast; and St. Johns County with St. Augustine.

New Smyrna Beach can either clean up CRA in house or outdsiders will do it for them

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- I appeared before the city commission on Tuesday night in an effort to have them internally address the ongoing problems over at the CRA. I also made one final attempt to have our elected officials request an independent forensic audit of the CRAs' books by the state auditors, all to no avail.

Tolley right on the money with CRA scrutiny

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Bob Tolley tasked the City Commission at Tuesday night's meeting to clean their own house regarding the CRA mess and not just the mess regarding the recently uncovered improper grants to CRA Board members, but all of it, along with the other problems in New Smyrna Beach.

The problem, as Tolley said at the podium, is far greater than these grants. It's dealing with the overall integrity, transparency, and reputation of the city. He stated his preference was to have the city clean its own house, in “true” partnership with the citizens.

But, if they chose not to, he was concerned enough about the situation that he intended to submit a letter to the governor, attorney general, state auditor, and local state attorney asking them to conduct an investigation of the city, the CRA, the hospital district, etc.

That brings me to the real problem here.

EDGEWATER -- I will be holding my final listening session of the year in Volusia County at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Edgewater City Hall, making it my 16th public listening session in Florida's 24th Congressional District this year.

Festive Saturday here in New Smyrna Beach

Sera and I have had a very busy day on this sunny Saturday in New Smyrna Beach: First at the Norwood's Holiday Food & Wine Festival on the North Causeway and now we're here on Canal Street for the NSB Christmas Parade.

Norwood's was jammed inside and out with hundreds of people coming and going. We got a little face time with Ivanna Trump where a wine brand bearing her name was a big seller.

Truth always wins out in long run: Dirt is dirt, period

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Robert Burns, glad hander for the Observer newspaper that hasn't published in weeks, was out and about Saturday afternoon on the North Causeway handing out flyers touting a new TV website while badmouthing NSBNews.net. Not a very bright move while claiming to present a positive product.

Burns made the mistake of running his mouth to one of our bloggers, Shira Beth Wild. When she told him who she was and her affiliation with NSB News, he took off like a weasel. It's just another example of the cutthroat BS of New Smyrna politics. The way to deal with cowards like this is to call them out. Burns was telling a woman out there how NSBNews.net only reports bad news. If the Observer actually reported real news
