NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- April Perrealt understands what Biketoberfest is all about: "Making money."

And that's a good thing in this economy for the 26-year-old Edgewater resident who enjoys the reprieve from her job as an accountant for a video store company. No, she hasn't appeared in any videos, she says with a laugh.

V-1'S 2 DAUGHTERS WERE AT THE HOME AND HAD BEEN STAYING WITH HER. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FOUL PLAY OR TRAUMA. V-1'S DOCTOR WILL SIGN THE DEATH CERTIFICATE.

DELAND -- The Friends of the Library will sell hardcover books and paperbacks in the DeLand Area Public Library auditorium from 9:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12; and 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.

A pre-sale will be open for viewing at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, and buyers can purchase books at pre-sale prices from 4:30 - 7:15 p.m.

OAK HILL -- Three structure fires Sunday in the area of Maytown Road my have been the work of an arsonist, officials said, with the fires breaking out within 40 minutes of each other.

The state Fire Marshal's Office may release preliminary details as early as today.

New Smyrna Beach resident Ellen Darden, who was a candidate in the 2010 primary for the County Council district 3 seat and is president-elect of the New Smyrna Beach Board of Realtors, wrote her opposition to Amendment 4 on the Nov. 2 ballot, the so-called Home Democracy initiative for voters to consider in the general election:

A “wolf in sheep’s clothing” is the metaphor that comes to mind when I consider Amendment 4. I hear this alleged growth management amendment to Florida’s Constitution, requiring a popular election every time a change is needed to every local comprehensive land use plan, described by supporters as though it is just a common sense, no down side proposal.

The recent box jellyfish invasion appears to have subsided. Nearly three dozen swimmers were treated on the beaches of New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach by lifeguards earlier this month while two others sought treatment in the emergency room of New Smyrna Beach's Bert Fish Medical Center.

Immersing the part stung into hot water with epson salts for a minimum of 20 minutes usually alleviates a lot of the pain. The sting of the box jellyfish is worse than that of the common jelly fish, but not nearly a s bad as its pacific cousin.
