As you may have heard or read, after the U.S. Census Bureau announces new the population figures, district boundaries must be adjusted. According to the Volusia County web site, the 2010 Census results, received in March, indicate the county has 494,593 residents, which calls for about 99,000 people in each district. This will require substantial shifts in most of the districts.
As we say goodbye to the last shuttle launch with Atlantis, it seems like just yesterday that we started launching men into space. Back then as the Apollo missions returned to earth, we watched with baited breath as the capsule floated under its parachute to the sea hoping all was well with the men inside.
I took a photo of the last space shuttle launch from my back yard and watched my family viewing it climb into the heavens with awe, waiting for the usual rumble sound. Since my youth, I have been encouraged to follow aerospace technology having a father who was a pilot by profession and a brother who worked for Grumman in Melbourne.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- I was driving my son to his baseball game and we were chatting about various topics, his batting average (not so great), his FCAT Scores (awesome), his birthday that just passed (14, where did the freakin time go), his father (a subject for another day) and the weather.
At one point I really did not think he was paying any attention to me so I asked him if he was listening.
"Yes Mom, I heard you."
So I said, "So, what do you think?"
It occurs to me that Governor Scott must be experiencing such traumatic doubts about his masculinity that he has to prove himself virile by bullying women.
I am heartsick and outraged that another innocent child has drowned in a family swimming pool! Where were the parents?
Computers! They sit on your desk or lap and quietly drive you completely insane! If any of you have noticed my absence recently you can chalk it up to computer defiance.
The height of kittens season is just around the corner for those of us that live in Volusia County and that means pregnant cats are everywhere. Male cats are out and about traveling longer distances to impregnate as many females as they can.
