To most Americans Christmas is a happy time punctuated by the presence of friends, family and an overwhelming air of optimism. Maybe now is a good time to go over the reasons we should be optimistic.
First of all, we live in a truly great country. In fact, in many ways the greatest country civilization has yet seen. Our best days are ahead of us, not behind us as some would have you believe.
Despite statements to the contrary, the world is not running out of resources. In fact, the mind of man keeps inventing and discovering new resources while finding better ways to obtain the old ones at a rate that causes the amount of available resources to increase over time.
While we face many serious problems, the solutions to most of them can be found if we go about them in the right way.
America is mainly a Judeo-Christian country in its culture. This gives it a very stable foundation for a peaceful and prosperous existence. True, people often fail miserably in the application of Christian principles, but the foundation remains intact.
Despite what they are trying to teach in our schools, using code words such as diversity and multiculturalism, western culture is as good or better than any of the others and far superior to most. Most Americans are consciously or unconsciously aware of this and are unlikely to abandon the precepts of Western civilization for other ways of doing things such as shiria law and some of the other bad features of Islamic culture such as subjugation of women.
People, and Americans in particular, thrive on overcoming adversity, problems and hardship. Without threats to well being, the human quickly gets bored with life and will actually start inventing artificial challenges and ways to introduce risk and danger into their lives. This may account for the popularity of sky diving and mountain climbing for some.
You could say we have been blessed with direct threats to our well being and way of life so that we can take on the challenge of overcoming these threats.
The reasons for optimism are always in abundance. We just have to take advantage of them.
