Norman Bernard Toroni, age 87, of New Smyrna Beach, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Smyrna Beach. Funeral service will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 23 at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach chapel. Calling hours will be 2:00 p.m. until service time.
Born in Loleta, California, he was the seventh of nine children born to Bartholomew and Amelia Toroni. Mr. Toroni, a Merchant Marine, had a great love of the sea. He was a member of Master Mates and Pilots, and for over 40 years was Captain of the Sealand Voyager.
Survivors include 3 children, Donna Bell and her husband, David of Manahawkin, New Jersey, Michael P. Toroni of Camelback, Pennsylvania, and Kelly Mooney and her husband, Todd of Hamilton, New Jersey; soul survivor of 9 children, his sister, Bea Reese of Prescott, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Courtney, Kevin, Connor and Kamryn; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
