Despicable demonstrations during military funerals another nail in the coffin for our great country

Freedom of speech is a right in this country protected by the Constitution, but it should also be governed by morality and conscience.

Recently, citing that very provision of the constitution the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the people carrying on with loud and obnoxious protests during the funerals of fallen military personnel have the right to do so.

They may have the legal right but where is their humanity?

These veterans died for their country and the rights of these people to protest. Their payment for their effort is to have their families harassed at one of the most difficult times of their lives.

This is a statement of how far this country has moved away from common decency.

I am outraged that anyone would think this behavior is acceptable. I honestly do not think the founders of the Constitution had anything like this in mind when they drafted the document. Back then the fallen were revered and their families treated with respect.

The Founding Fathers could never have imagined anything like these protests or they would have made some exceptions to the Freedom of Speech portion of the Constitution.

While the Supreme Court is bound to honor the constitution, it should also have the right to not allow such lack of conscience to be a part of our society. If these people won’t police themselves, the law should.

Too many unconscionable actions lately are hiding behind the constitution.

Does that make you proud of our country?

This blogger thinks it is shameful for any nation to allow a protest at a funeral for anyone not just a fallen military person. I certainly hope this trend does not continue for I see it as another nail in the coffin of my country.
