You may have heard this saying before, I have. It is based on the theory that "Like attracts Like" or the "Law of Attraction." The Law of Attraction says: That which is like unto itself is drawn.
This explains why we enjoy the company of people who are most like us, and why some people become best friends compared with "two boaters passing each other in the Intercoastal with a mere wave."
While we are naturally attracted to some people we are also quite repelled by others; even if there is nothing tangible on which to base our like or dislike, some people feel "right" and some don’t.
We affect, in one way or another, the people we meet.
Research suggests this happens instinctively, on a subconscious level, through thoughts, feelings and through body language. But what’s interesting is that even seemingly negative people have friends.
"Birds of the feather flock together" or "misery loves company" explains why negative, critical and complaining people can still find and attract an audience.
I tend to believe in the following quote: "If we are basically positive in attitude, expecting and envisioning happiness, we will attract and create situations, and events which conform to our positive expectations."
