Nearly $800,000 South Street project in New Smyrna Beach completed; ribbon cutting scheduled Wednesday

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Municipal and county officials will participate in a ribbon
cutting ceremony Wednesday, Aug. 24, to mark the official completion of the nearly $800,000 South
Orange Street Streetscape and Parking Lot Improvement project.

The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. on S. Orange Street near its intersection with Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach.

Participants will include New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer, City Commissioners Lynne Plakett, Jim Hathaway, Jack Grasty and Judy Reiker, as well as Community Redevelopment Agency board members and County Council Member Joie Alexander who represents Southeast Volusia.

Refreshments will follow at Panhead's Pizzeria, 113 S. Orange St.

The nearly $800,000 project was funded by the CRA and its funding partners, the City of New Smyrna Beach and the County of Volusia. Improvements included complete reconstruction of the stormwater system, complete reconstruction of the roadway with curb and gutter and nested on-street parking, decorative streetlights, 5-foot
sidewalks, landscaping, irrigation, and parking lot upgrades to the CRA parking lot at the corner of Orange and Downing streets.
