Earlier this week, the citizens of Volusia County were given a demonstration in functional, common sense government.
The Turnbull Bay Bridge, a vital artery for the residents of the Turnbull Bay area, was reopened after an efficient and effective repair job paid for by the City of New Smyrna Beach and the County of Volusia.
It was a great showing of cooperative governing. This is exactly how government should function – with partnerships among entities and leaders listening to the ideas of others. The City of New Smyrna Beach said we'd come up with the money to do this if the county would.
From the time they shut the bridge down, which was Aug. 8, it's been 56 days. It was 57th day when the bridge was re-opened.
The reality of this proves that when governments work together collectively for the common good of the citizenry, things can be accomplished. This is a pure example. This is a no brainer doing this.
