NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- With the clock ticking to Tuesday's primary, Headline Surfer is going to announce its endorsements throughout the day and through the night in various races. The 24/7 Internet newspaper will either get right down to it with a single candidate in a particular race or at least the top two in most of the others.
There are a few that we just aren't settled on yet and may just point out strengths and weaknesses.
Headline Surfer is the only media outlet in Volusia County sticking its neck out. Some of our choices may be surprising, but we will stand by our convictions -- win, lose or draw. We are confident the voters will make choices they can live with.
For some races, Tuesday's primary is the finality, but for the others, it's a mere warm-up to what we expect will be among the most contested in Volusia County's history, especially with polar opposites in Obama and Romney leading the way. Input from the candidates is welcomed.
Already, we've heard grumblings about advertising and how that may affect our decisions. It's a fair question, but anyone can see that we've got enough cross pollination in candidate revenue that this should not be an issue. It's not for us. In 24 hours, the votes should stat coming in and the results will be known.
Good luck to the candidates and safe travels for the voters for you are what makes Democracy proud. To those of you who have already voted through absentee ballots or early voting, the same applies.
We, too, will be casting our votes tomorrow, fully alert to any last-minute issues that may arise and cause us to rethink our choices. God bless us all.
