New Smyrna Beach cops: Man brandishing knife robs couple of $40

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A 29-year-old man who allegedly robbed a couple while brandishing a knife was apprehended after fleeing into nearby woods was apprehended with the help of a canine, New Smyrna Beach police said.

Here is a synopsis of what happened in the 2:05 a.m. Saturday armed robbery at South Myrtle Avenue and Downing Street incident as described by Sgt. Christopher Kirk: The victims reported being approached by Anthony Dominick Landi who displayed a knife and demanded money. They gave him $40.00 cash and he fled the scene south on Sourth Myrtle Avenue. Landi ultimately fled into the woods between Sourth Myrtle Avenue and the Florida East Coast Railroad property.

New Smyrna Beach Police officers arrived on scene, set up a perimeter, and pursued Landi using a police canine. Landi was located by the canine team and surrendered without incident.

The robbery victims, 31-year-old Alyson Dattoli and 27-year-old Kyle Nowell, were not injured in the incident.
