NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Here's a look back at one of the more popular New Smyrna Beachweeks events, Fishstock.
Held May 23-26, it was the first of 10 New Smyrna Beachweeks events that culminates with fireworks shows on July 4, in New Smyrna Beach from the same locale and in Edgewater, across from City Hall in Menard Park.
Fishstock drew upwards of 10,000 fishing enthusiasts over the three-day weekend.
The fireworks shows in both locales are being promoted to locals and tourists alike by the Southeast Volusia Advertising Authority, which utilizes bed tax monies from overnight hotel and accommodator stays to put on events that promote tourism.
And what better place than New Smyrna Beach, the city of 23,000, known for its charm, eclectic shops and restaurants along Flagler Avenue, the Intracoastal Waterway, and best of all, the hard sands of the beach along the breath-taking Atlantic coastline, where beach driving is allowed and the curling waves inviting to swimmers and surfers alike.
Headline Surfer, the award-winning 24/7 internet newspaper based right here in New Smyrna Beach since its launch in April 2008, initially as NSB News, hopes you enjoy the photos images captured at the '13 Fishstock tourism event.
There was something for everyone at Fishstock, from Harley-Davidson motorcycles, to plants, to cotton candy and live bands. And each child attending got a fishing pole. Though New Smyrna Beachweeks is new, Fishstock has been a tourism staple for years.
