EDGEWATER -- The night skies were lit up along the Southeast Volusia coastline by a spectacular fireworks show in Edgewater to celenrate the Fourth of July.
The municipality held a day-long series of events beginning with a 5K walk/run along South Riverside Drive.
All proceeds from the 5K were designated for the Wounded Warrior project.
Food and other various vendors were available at Menard-May Park and George R. Kennedy Park beginning as of 5 p.m. with live entertainment at 6:45 p.m. by the Smyrna Brass Quintet.
Then at 9 p.m., the Zambelli Fireworks Show got under way with 1,000 fireworks launched into the sky over Edgewater, which could be seen in the southern portion of New Smyrn Beach along the Intracoastal Waterway and in the northern part of Oak Hill.

Edgewater officials estimated more than 10,000 people attened the city's fireworks show.
The fireworks shows here and in New Smyrna Beach culminated the New Smyrna beachweeks organized by the Southeast Volusia Advertising Authority, though each city paid for its own fireworks with the ad authority marketing them.
