NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An 11-year-old New Smyrna Beach boy hit by a car at the intersection of Paige Avenue and Corbin Park Road while riding his bicycle six days ago, died earlier today, a spokesman confirmed at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.

Mark Moore, a fifth-grader at Read-Pattillo Elementary School, was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m. at the Orlando hospital, surrounded by family.

It was 6:30 p.m. Thursday, while riding his bicycle west on Paige that the boy was struck by a 2002 Honda Civic driven by Katelin Evans, 19, of New Smyrna Beach, who was heading south on Corbin.  No charges have been issued against the mottorist, but the accident remains under investigation, said Sgt. Kim Montes, spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol.

James Tyler, a friend of the victim's family has set up an account to help with funeral expenses at Friends Bank, 2222 SR 44, New Smyrna Beach, with checks payable to "James Tyler Benefit for Mark Moore." Donations can also be made at Friends Bank branches at 208 S. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, and 1504 S. Ridgewood Ave. Edgewater.
