NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- This 6-year-old boy has an awesome firefighter's hat -- not the plastic kind with the white string that breaks easily. It's the least the New Smyrna Beach firefighters feel they can do their junior honorary partner, Cameron Fulling.
The pint-sized kid suffers from ependymoma, a malignant brain and spinal cord cancer. To help with travel expenses and medical treatment, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Port Orange fire unions also have donated $1,700 to his family.

McCallister and New Smyrna Beach Battalion Chief Chris Dymond presented Cameron his own helmet, badge and plaque in recognition of his honorary firefighter status during a ceremony earlier this month at a New Smyrna Beach City Commission meeting.
After the Feb. 11 ceremony in the New Smyrna Beach City Hall Commission Chambers, Cameron got to ride in a New Smyrna Beach fire engine and was treated to ice cream by several firefighters.
Cameron first got to ride in a city fire truck during the New Smyrna Beach Christmas Parade in early December with his mother.
Cameron has a deadly form of cancer and how long he has to live has not be en divulged. But he has shown by his shown by his courage and inner strength how brave he can be and has proven to be an inspiration to the adult firtefighters who have taken him under their wing.
