81. Box office moves at Ocean Center in time for NCAA basketball classic

DAYTONA BEACH -- The Ocean Center box office moved to its new home at 101 N. Atlantic Ave. on Nov. 21, after months of temporary facilities set up during Ocean Center construction activities. The relocation was just in time for the NCAA college basketball's Glenn Wilkes Classic over the weekend.

Two years ago, the box office was relocated from the Ocean Center’s west side to the east side of the facility to accommodate the expansion. In upcoming months, the box office will move back into the renovated space which now is located on the connector concourse that joins the new exhibit hall and the renovated arena.

The new box office has upgraded Ticketmaster equipment, which allows ticket office staff access to more information in a timelier manner. (The Ocean Center box office is not a Ticketmaster outlet, but sells tickets to Ocean Center events through the Ticketmaster system.) In addition, the box office has upgraded ticket scanners, giving patrons faster access to events.

An Ocean Center business center – for use by exhibitors, vendors and conventioneers – ultimately will be adjacent to the new box office on the connector concourse. The box office move occurred just in time for the second annual Glenn Wilkes Classic – events that tipped off the 2008-'09 NCAA Men's Basketball season at the Ocean Center with teams from Marshall University, Morgan State University, University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, University of Utah, University of Mississippi and Rollins College competing in the three-day event.

The Ocean Center is an entertainment, convention and sports complex designed to accommodate the needs of the citizens and visitors of Volusia County. The facility has been undergoing a $76 million expansion since mid-2005. A service of Volusia County Government, the Ocean Center is the only convention complex within 400 feet of the Atlantic Ocean. It is funded by operating revenues and 3-percent Tourist Development Tax on transient accommodations. Grand opening events are scheduled for early 2009.
