Did Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas take $132,000 and other donations from PhRMA?

Did this convince her to vote no to Health Care Reform?

Since the Newe Smyrna Beach Democrat voted against the Health Care Bill in the house I am convinced that PhRMA was an influence on her vote. I have emailed her Washington DC office four times asking for an explanation of why she took an estimated $132,000 from PhRMA used in a direct mail piece. I have received no response.

I called the Congresswoman’s office in Washington DC on Nov 12 and spoke to one of her staffers. He stated that there was a mailing by PhRMA produced on behalf of Congresswomen Kosmas, however they had no control of the content. I believe the staffer does not know what he is talking about. Essentially, he said that any person or company or anyone can use the congresswomen’s name, photo, address and send a letter that appears that it comes from the congresswomen without any legal liability.

Here is my first article that I emailed three times to the Congresswoman:

I was in the direct mail business (now retired) and I am aware of the mail that I receive. I received an oversized four-color 6 X 9 self-mailer card with an indicia from Congresswomen Suzanne Kosmas. The indicia (this is the printed postage indicator located on the address side in the upper right corner) stated that PhRMA paid the postage. Also printed on the mail piece was a statement that the mailing had been paid by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). I sent four emails to the Congresswomen Kosmas’s DC address and her Kosmas for Congress address. This started in September. I have not received an answer to my question. “Why are you taking money from the pharmaceutical industry and how will it determine your decisions on health care reform?” I did receive one cookie cutter standard response that most Congress people send in response to an issue. I was not questioning the issue. My question essentially said this: “If you mailed to four hundred thousand voters that voted in the 2008 election the postage would have cost you about $96.000.” How are you involved in PhRMA?” The $96,000 does include the cost of printing and processing the oversized card. I estimate this to be in the neighborhood of $36,000. A total of $132,000.

The non-response and my phone call the the DC office indicates to me that I was correct with my dollar amounts and a there is a connection with PhRMA and the Congresswomen. he probably just wants me to go away.

I would like to know how much influence this type of donation will have on fixing Medicare Part D. If you also have questions please take the time to write, call or email Congresswomen Suzanne Kosmas. Perhaps we can finally get an answer.
