DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A 25-year-old man was undergoing life-saving surgery early this morning after he was shot multiple times at close range by cops early this morning after lunging at one of them with a knife, police said.

tonight (December 17, 2020) by officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) while they were investigating a domestic disturbance complaint.

Here is a synopsis of what occurred as described in an email media klert by DBPD to Headline Surfer:

Officers were dispatched to the Icon One Apartments inside One Daytona soon after the call came into the Volusia County emergency dispatch center at 9:51 this evening.

As officers were on the way to the scene, one of the people who called 911 for assistance told dispatchers that two men were arguing with one another in a parking lot off of Legends Lane and that one of the men indicated that he was going to “stab someone” if he saw a law enforcement officer arrive on scene.

Soon after officers arrived on scene, one of them spotted a sharp object inside a hand of one of the men involved in that argument. He’s since been identified as Andrew A. Mansilla.

Body camera video of the incident shows that Mansilla charged at one of the officers with that sharp object in his hand despite repeated warnings to stop moving towards the officer.

Mansilla was traansported to Halifax Hospital with what cops on scene described as a bullet wound to the neck.
