Breaking news will always take precedence over routine daily news happenings and even investigative reporting. That's the philosophy true media outlets follow, big and small. We certainly fall into the latter, though NSBNEWS.net has grown tremendously in terms of online followers near and far. VolusiaNews.net isn't quite a month old yet, and as a matter of fact, isn't finished being constructed. though it is live and accessible. Both sites, are, of course, free of charge. As coverage of the Pennysaver murder case shows, the public benefits when there is media competition. The News-Journal isn't the only game in town any more. As many people will attest, the best journalist in Volusia County doesn't work for a corporation. He works for you.
It's tough having to hold off posting a lot of community news when something big like this happens, but we are a small operation. I am the sole daily journalist, advertising representative, marketer and day-to-day webmaster, but I do have quite a few community bloggers and this week enlisted a second contributing writer in Dale Smith, who has covered news in Volusia County since October 200, in addition to occasional reports from Mark Williams of halifaxareanewswatch.com.
I also have the multimedia talent contributions of my wife, Sera Frederick and more than a dozen loyal community bloggers led by my co-founding publisher and blogger Peter Mallory and our Utah-based webmaster Jed Brown.
Still, I need to play catch up on the New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater police reports for the past couple of weeks as well as jail dockets and other news items of record. There is also a glut of really good community stories that I have yet to write and post.
It's not easy pretty much doing 95 percent of everything, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. NSBNEWS,net is now n its third year and VolusiaNews.net is but an infant.
But you know what? We have broken and covered some of the biggest stories in Volusia County and it won't be long before more of Volusia County learns of the strength of real community journalism that is offered here. And in this triible economy, hopefully more advertisers will see that NSBNEWS.net and VolusiaNews.net are not only growing in online readers and viewers, but also for the extremely affordable costs to display their products.
Ads can be placed on either or both websites for a year's run, from as little as $50 to as much as $2,500 a year with 24/7 exposure.
VolusiaNews.net is weeks away from being completely built and NSBNEWS.net will be upgraded to mirror that new look with even more interactive options.
So please continue your patience and loyalty. Thank our advertisers and our bloggers for all of their efforts and service for a better greater New Smyrna Beach and Volusia County as a whole.
God bless...
