BREAKING NEWS: Two killed in midday Oak Hill traffic crash

OAK HILL -- A midday crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Halifax Avenue turned deadly when a Dodge Caravan crashed into a Ford Taurus resulting in two deaths, police said.

For unknown reasons, the Dodge van stopped at the stop sign while heading west on Halifax , but then T-boned the Taurus, which was southbound on U.S. 1 passing whle passing under the yellow blinking light. Stop signs are posted on Halifax on both sides of US. 1. A vehicle the van also got caught up in the accident.

Two people in the van died, said Oak Hill police officer Diane Young, who was the first officer on the scene. Both were adults she said. One of the victims, a woman, died en route to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach while being airlifted by the Volusia County Sheriff's helicopter. Five others were injured, though one refused medical treatment.

Young said she didn't readily have any other information since the double-fatality accident is being handled by the Florida Highway Patrol, which also responded and is responsible for investigating it.
