Central Florida Weather: Clouds giving way to sunny skies mid-week with rain possible this weekend

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Clouds will give way to sunny skies here in Central Florida by mid-week with temperatures rising to the low 80s by Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Here is the forecast for Orlando-Sanford-Daytona through Sunday:

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 50. North northwest wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 64. North northeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low of around 50. North-northeast wind around 5 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 72. East-southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low of around 57. Southeast wind around 10 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 64. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 8 am. High near 77. Windy, with a south wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Saturday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 51. North northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Beach Safety Report:

Volusia County Beach Safety flew the RED flag Sunday.

"We saved 40 people from the ocean due to rip currents," Beach Safety Capt. Laura S. Warner told Headline Surfer in an email media alert. "One person was transported to the hospital via EMS for precautionary reasons."
