Six Questions on Health Insurance

"Our health insurance system is broken. I came to Washington to fix it, and I am thrilled that Congress is now debating the most fundamental reform of our health insurance system in a generation. We are poised to make changes to lower costs for everyone, provide a broad array of choices in coverage (including keeping what you have if you are happy with it), and cover more people. This debate is heating up now, so I need your input. Please join the conversation by answering this six question survey. All answers will be kept confidential." -- Suzanne Kosmas:

Do you currently have health insurance coverage?

( )Yes

( )No

If you have health insurance coverage, how satisfied are you with it?

( )I am fully satisfied with my coverage.

( )I am somewhat satisfied with my coverage.

( )I am somewhat unsatisfied with my coverage.

( )I am totally unsatisfied with my coverage.

( )Other If you answered that you are unsatisfied with your current health insurance coverage, what makes it unsatisfactory?

( )Premiums and deductibles are too high.

( )I can’t see the doctor of my choice.

( )Health insurance company is hard to deal with.

( )Other

In the list of what stresses your family or business’ budget, where do health insurance costs rank?

( )The top of the list.

( )Somewhere in the middle.

( )It’s not a concern for me, or my family, or my business.

( )Other

A component of my vision for reform that lowers costs and creates choice is the creation of a public health insurance option. This option would compete with private insurance plans to lower cost and would have access to an immediate network of doctors in Connecticut and across the country so that it can offer a complete and comprehensive insurance plan from its outset. Are you in favor of this type of public health insurance option?

( )Yes, I support this concept.

( )I don’t know, but I want to learn more about this concept.

( )No, I do not support this concept.

( )Other Health insurance reform may include a mandate on individuals to buy health insurance, with assistance to pay for it; or a requirement on businesses of a certain size to provide coverage for their employees, with incentives for doing so; or a shared responsibility between individuals and businesses to be covered, with incentives for doing so.

Which of these options do you prefer?

( )A mandate on individuals to buy health insurance, with assistance to pay for it.

( )A requirement on businesses of a certain size to provide coverage for their employees, with incentives for doing so.

( )A shared responsibility between individuals and businesses to be covered, with incentives for doing so. ( )I don't know.

( )I am opposed to all of the above.

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. Please feel free to share your health insurance story with me via email or phone (my office locations and phone numbers are listed below). I look forward to hearing from you about this issue, or anything else on your mind.

Sincerely,

SUZANNE M. KOSMAS

Member of Congress
