Daytona Beach man found guilty in stabbing murder; faces up to life in prison

DAYTONA BEACH -- a jury deliberated for three-and-a-half hours today before finding Dangelo Belle guilty of the lesser included offense of second degree murder in the March 12, 2009, stabbing death of Chad Hankerson.

Belle will be sentenced by Circuit Patrick Kennedy in about 30 days where he will face up to life in prison, State Attorney spokesman Chris Kelly said.

The victim was stabbed to death outside the Maple Tree Apartments, 304 Maple St. According to the police charging affidavit, Belle, then 33, thrust a knife into the victim's neck and then fled the scene in a car.

Hankerson died about an hour later, a month shy of his 29th birthday.
