DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Mayor Derrick Henry had the honor of recognizing a true pillar of the Daytona Beach Community on Monday as Geneva Loper celebrated her 100th birthday.

"Ms. Loper is a distinguished resident of Daytona Beach, calling our city home since 1950," the mayor posted on his Facebook page. "She devoted her life to shaping young minds as an impactful educator at Campbell Elementary and Westside Elementary."

As his own 5th-grade teacher, the mayor said he "can personally attest to the powerhouse she was in the classroom. She ran a structured environment rooted in love, accountability, and high expectations—always demanding the very best from her students while showing genuine care."
