Deltona man charged with sexually battering two children

Editor's Note: Follow-up story

DELTONA -- A Deltona couple used the buzz-word "playtime" when referring to their sexual escapades, A Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

Following an investigation by the Sheriff's Office, 24-year-old Hailie Michael Martinez is being held in jail without bond and is facing accusations that "playtime" involved sex with two children under the age of five.

Martinez also is suspected of downloading child pornography from the Internet and could face additional criminal charges.

The Sheriff's Office launched the investigation after receiving a tip on Sept. 20 and turned over the information to the agency's Sex Crimes Unit for a follow-up investigation, agency spokesman Gasry Davidson said. Information uncovered in the investigation revealed that Martinez had sex in front of the victims and also had sex with them -- a 2-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy, the spokesman said.

According to investigators, Martinez would also help the children mimic the sex acts they witnessed by demonstrating to them what to do. Based on the information developed during the investigation, the Sheriff's Office obtained arrest warrants on Tuesday charging Martinez with two counts of sexual battery on a person under the age of 12. Martinez was picked up Wednesday morning at his home on Kingston Drive and is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information regarding Martinez' activities is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (386) 323-3574.
