Doris Lea Jones, age 85, of New Smyrna Beach, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Hospice Care Center of Edgewater.
A resident since 1974, Mrs. Jones came to this area from her place of birth, Baltimore, Maryland, where she was an operator with C & P Telephone Company. She was a member of Coronado Community United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her children, Rosemarie G. Frutchey and husband, Wayne, of New Smyrna Beach, Doris L. Neidhardt and husband, George, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, John Jones and wife, Joan of Baltimore, and David K. Jones of Edgewater; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her long-time companion, Robert Bomhart of Piqua, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Jones in June of 1995.
A memorial service is planned for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 at the Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery Mausoleum. Her two sons and granddaughter are afflicted with Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHONs disease), which causes blindness. Accordingly, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Development Office, 900 Northwest 17 Street, Miami, FL 33136 for LOHNs disease research.
