DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A 76-year-old man body surfing drowned Saturday afternoon near Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway.
It happened along the beach near the intersection of Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway and Zelda Boulevard in Daytona Beach. The drowning was reported at 12:41 p.m. in the 1200 block of N. Atlantic Ave.
Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Director Tamra Malphurs reported that a 75-year-old man was pulled from the ocean unresponsive.

Rescue workers from Beach Safety, Volusia County Emergency Management Services, and the Daytona Beach Fire Department performed lifesaving measures before transporting him to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
"Despite all efforts, he later passed away," Malphurs said in an email.
The man's identity was not released.
