NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Volusia County Sheriff's Investigators have launched an investigation after four girls at New Smyrna Beach Middle School had to be hospitalized after one of them brought three different kinds of prescription pills to school and shared them with the others.
A teacher reported to administrators that four eighth-graders were acting suspicious in her classroom shortly after 11 a.m. and they were sent to the school's clinic.
Responding deputies learned one girl brought the pills to school and shared them with a friend. The friend, in turn, shared them with two other friends.
Two of the girls were taken by ambulance to Bert Fish Medical Center, he third by a parent and the fourth by a grandparent.
School district officials could not be reached for comment late in the day Monday.
