DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Paul Johnson, an MD with more than 20 years of experience in non-surgical sports medicine, has joined the Halifax Health – Center for Advanced Wound Healing in Daytona Beach, a hospital official said.

"Dr. Johnson is a fellowship-trained Hyperbaric and Dive Medicine physician and holds certifications in sports medicine and family medicine. His post-graduate education in Hyperbaric Medicine includes wound care, patient consultation, chamber operation, and dive physicals," John Guthrie, vice president of communications and executive director of Healthy Communities at Halifax Health told Headline Surfer. "He is a previous flight surgeon for the Montana National Guard and is passionate about veterans’ health, especially TBI (traumatic brain injury) and PTSD."

Dr. Johnson, 55, brings his expertise in hyperbaric medicine to treat ailments such as chronic and acute wounds, infections, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness, gas emboli, and sudden sensorineural hearing loss, Guthrie said, adding other injuries that benefit from the healing effects of hyperbaric oxygen are concussions, PTSD, TBI, and various sports-related injuries.

That certainly is the sentiment of another Halifax Health executive.

“As the Center for Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine continues to grow its capabilities in our community, we are very pleased to have Dr. Johnson join us,” said Stephen Levine, MD, and medical director for The Center for Advanced Wound Healing. “His special area of expertise in Hyperbaric Medicine allows us to expand our services to patients in the Central Florida area.”
