DELTONA -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning robbery of a Deltona grocery store pharmacy.
A man walked into the business and demanded that the pharmacist give him some drugs. The suspect implied he had a weapon, but one was not actually seen, Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said. No one was injured during the incident. The robber was able to grab a few bottles of prescription pills and then flee. Several deputies, a K-9 unit and a Sheriff's Office helicopter responded to the scene, but the suspect was not found.
The Sheriff's Office was notified that there was a robbery at the Winn-Dixie pharmacy, 2880 Howland Blvd., at approximately 9 a.m. The
pharmacist told responding deputies that the suspect came in and pointed something wrapped in a plastic bag at him. The victim didn't know what was in the bag, but assumed it was a gun. The suspect demanded the drugs oxycodone and oxycotin, and the pharmacist quickly handed over a few bottles of pills. The suspect then fled.
The robber was described as a white man in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 7. He wore a red hat, sunglasses and a blue shirt. A witness told deputies that the suspect got into a car parked along the side of the store. The car was a gray, two-door, older model Saturn.
