Mother of murdered 5-month-old baby sentenced to 12 years in prison for her role in the death

DELAND, Fla. -- During a hearing this morning, Stephanie Holly pled no contest to the neglect of a child causing great bodily harm, failure to report child abuse/neglect, and culpable negligence exposing Injury.

She was sentenced to 12 years in Florida State Prison and eight years of probation with inpatient treatment.

Holly is the former girlfriend of Calib Scott, who murdered their infant son, Daemon Scott, in 2019. In April of this year, a Volusia County jury found Scott guilty of first-degree murder, among other charges, and sentenced him to life in prison.

The 5-month-old died from blunt head trauma, but the investigation showed extensive injuries that occurred over time including a sore on Daemon’s nose and mouth. The infant also had thermal injuries consistent with a cigarette burn inside his ear.

Despite prior knowledge, Holly failed to protect her son and report the abuse/neglect by  Scott.

Assistant State Attorney Andrew Urbanak successfully prosecuted the case for the State.  The Honorable Dawn Nichols presided over the case and pronounced the sentence.
