
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Mystery-novel readers can get a dose of the real thing during “Murder, Mayhem and Mystery – Behind the Scenes,” a lecture
series at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library.
Guest speakers will take mystery lovers behind the crime scene tape to explain what really happens and why. Adults are invited to these lectures, which will be from 6 - 7 p.m. May 4, 6 and 7 in the library’s auditorium. Light refreshments will be served.
● On Monday, May 4, New Smyrna Beach resident Michael Berish, who spent 20 years with the real Miami Vice Squad, will tell true tales of his life in “The Pit,” the most crime-ridden ghetto in Miami. Berish published short stories of his adventures as an undercover detective in the award-winning "Reflections from the Pit."
● On Wednesday, May 6, Lt. Albert Pagliari, a 27-year veteran of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, will explain basic crime scene
investigation.
● On Thursday, May 7, Marie Herrmann, M.D, will discuss her experiences as a coroner and medical examiner for the last 20 years. Dr.
Hermann has been the chief medical examiner for Volusia and Seminole counties since 2006.
The series is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Used mystery books and other items will be sold during the week and at the events.
