
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The discovery of a fatal gunshot victim early this morning slumped in an SUV behind an Edgewater bar is believed to be from an earlier incident in which shots were reported fired in the 1400-1600 blocks of Palmetto Street, New Smyrna Beach police said.
The victim was found dead in the back of a red Ford sport utility vehicle in the rear parking lot of High Tops Lounge, 319 North Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater.
Police are withholding information about the deceased until relatives are notified of his passing.
Police said they initially responded 11:15 p.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting on Palmetto from an unknown car into an SUV.
A short time later, a second related call was received in reference to a deceased male in a vehicle in the rear parking lot of Hi Tops, said New Smyrna Beach police Sgt. Shane Riggle, adding, the State Attorney Homicide Task Force Investigators and Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime scene technicians responded to the scene to assist police.
No information was provided by police on a possible suspect or vehicle involved in the shooting.
