NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Peter Mallory retired Wednesday as co-publisher of NSBNews.net because of health considerations. Mallory, who recently turned 77, has been dealing with a variety of health ailments, including a bout with carbon monoxide poisoning.
Mallory will continue writing his blog, "The Right Side" as time and health permits. The blog will resume in a few weeks when he is feeling better. Mallory won an award last year for blogging from the Florida Press Club, representing this online newspaper. He said he leaves NSBNews.net with a sense of achievement having attained the status of a conservative columnist after years of of hit-and-miss letters getting published in print media.
"All I ever wanted to do was to give my opinions on issues that are important to me and to the community," Mallory said. "I got this opportunity with Henry Frederick four years ago when he told me he wanted to establish NSBNews.net."
Mallory laughed off the incident that landed him in the hospital. He said he accidentally left his car running in the garage upon returning home at night in his haste to get to the bathroom. "I forgot to shut the car off," he said, shrugging his shoulders, adding he has been battling a urinary tract infection for a couple of months.
Mallory said he's pleased that NSBNews.net has grown since its April 7, 2008, launch as the first fully-online community newspaper in Florida. Just this week, NSBNews.net, also known as VolusiaNews.net, took on the trademark umbrella name, "Headline Surfer," Florida's 24/7 Internet Newspaper.
We wish Peter Mallory a return to good health and look forward to his blogs, which will appear at the bottom of the home page to allow him time to write without deadline pressures.
