The big push is on today in Lake Mary and Sanford by politicians and Florida Department of Transportation bureaucrats alike to push the virtues of SunRail.

LAKE MARY -- The carnival-like atmosphere will be in full swing today in Lake Mary and Sanford with politicians and Florida Department of Transportation officials taking center stage like car salesmen pleading with every man, woman and child to "Get on Board the SunRail Train!"

And there literally is a carnival planned, not just a figure of speech. The City of Lake Mary is holding its fifth annual "Family Fun Day downtown from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There's the Farmers Market, children's activities (including public safety demonstrations) and while you are there, DOT officials will be cajoling you to step inside the platform. Of course, it's not going anywhere. At least not until May 1 when the free rides begin and the subsidies have to be doled out by local governments like Lake Mary's.

As for media coverage, you can expect a lot of that, too, since DOT has heaped nearly half a million bucks to ensure everything is just peachy-keen. So don't expect any in-depth news coverage in terms of the financial boondoggle on the taxpayers that has been the norm for the better part of two years now.

Then the DOT officials and host of state, regional and possibly Washington politicians will car pool it to Sanford to continue more of the same pomp and circumstance from 2 to 4 p.m.

In the Works: Headline Surfer will tell you how hundreds of thousands of dollars were doled out to select Central Florida media outlets to promote SunRail with a complete breakdown of who got what.
