Record 5,000 'unique visitors' for elections coverage crashes NSBNEWS.net

Coverage of the 2010 general elections was both good and bad for NSBNEWS.net: The good news is we had 5,000 "unique visitors" on Monday, according to Google Analytics. The bad news is we crashed because our server couldn't handle the record number of online users. This more than doubled our previous record of 2,418 visitors on Oct. 25.

What fueled the demand? Most likely it was our endorsements, considering we were the only media outlet in Volusia County to take a stand with the candidates.

We were having a fit at 2 a.m. Tuesday when we had as many as 200 people online at the same time. We weren't prepared for that kind of volume and our intermittent crashes led to a massive overload and being knocked off the server for several hours.

By early afternoon we were knocked out again before our webmaster was able make adjustments to the server. We're hoping and praying that we will be OK, but please, pretty please: Keep hitting us up. As Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry said,  "Go ahead -- make my day."

In case you are wondering, the Oct. 25 rise was due to the posting of the Pub 44 bartender April Perriault during our Biketoberfest. Even Google posted the photo.
