Old movie goers like myself are saddened by the loss of Elizabeth Taylor who died today at the age of 79. Liz Yaylor was very talented and beautiful. She was pegged for stardom when she was 12 years old, starring with Mickey Rooney in "National Velvet."
Many of her movies in the golden age of theater were box office successes; among them "Butterfield Eight," "Cleopatra," "A Place in the Sun" and many others.
In true Hollywood fashion, Liz Taylor caused quite a national stir when she stole Eddie Fisher away from Debbie Reynolds, who was a sweetheart in her own right.
Of course, Liz Taylor was not one to stick around with any one man. She was married seven times; twice to Richard Burton with whom she was most identified as a wedded couple. Debbie Reynolds was on her way to becoming America's super sweetheart, so Liz Taylor, in a fit of jealously showed her who was still the No. 1 leading lady in Hollywood by stealing her man.
She was last married to a construction worker, Larry Fortensky, for about five years before they divorced in 1996.
In the 1950s and '60s, Liz Taylor was considered the most, or at least one of the most, beautiful women in the world.
She had several scares with pneumonia over the last decade, but survived.
It's a reminder that age is catching up with us older folks and that we should savor each day.
