SEVILLE -- The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery of a Seville convenience store Tuesday morning.
Three employees were in the store when a man with a handgun entered and demanded cash. There were no shots fired or any injuries. Several deputies, a K-9 unit and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded to the scene, but the suspect was not found.
The robbery happened at approximately 5:45 a.m. at the Kangaroo Express, 1695 North U.S. Highway 17. At the time, two clerks were behind the store’s main counter while a third employee was behind a separate sandwich shop counter nearby. The robber entered the store, went directly to the main counter and demanded cash from the register. One of the clerks complied, and the robber then fled. The clerks then quickly activated the store’s holdup alarm and called 911. A K-9 unit tracked the robber to an adjacent road, but lost the scent, possibly due to the robber getting into a getaway vehicle staged there.
The robber was described as a black man about 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 with a medium to stocky build. He had his face covered with either a mask or a shirt, but the victims said that he might have been in his early 20s. He was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 943-7866 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Tipsters can also provide information by texting “TIP231 plus the message” to CRIMES. Anyone who provides information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
