DAYTONA BEACH -- A 26-year-old Palm Coast man was arrested after firing a gun into the ground outside a nightclub earlier today, which prompted a Daytona Beach police oggicer to fire several warning shots in the air, police said.
Corey Lynch was arrested in the 3 a.m. incident outside the Aqua on North Grand Avenue, police said, on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of aggravated assault.
Lynch got into an argument with a man and a woman and pulled a gun from his waistband, firing one shot into the ground near the woman's feet, police said.
Sgt. Eric Ryan, who was nearby, ran towards Lynch while firing several warning shots in the air after he tried to run away, police said.
Lynch was taken into custody, but the gun was not found, police said, adding the sergeant was place on administrative leave, standard procedure during an investigation when a police firearm is discharged.
