
PORT ORANGE -- State Rep. Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange, will join members of the John E. Mealy Memorial Post 3282 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars today for a fund-raising barbecue to benefit citizens impacted by the recent tornado in Port Orange.
The tornado, which struck Port Orange on July 24, affected 178 homes and caused an estimated $2.6 million in damage. VFW members immediately mobilized to assist victims of the storm, clearing debris and delivering food and supplies. Representative Hukill, a member of the Post Ladies Auxiliary, joined other VFW members and the Governor for a tour of the affected communities on Monday.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted with all proceeds to benefit those affected by the storm. The barbeque will begin at 1:00pm at VFW Post 3282 located at 5810 S. Williamson Boulevard in Port Orange. There will be food and music as well as an auction; residents are welcome to donate items.
